Do you want to be an entrepreneur?
Do you want to be an entrepreneur but aren’t sure where to begin? Then try visiting Amino. After the past few days’ debate about my "Fuck Holger" video, I’ve received around 200 personal emails from people wanting to get started. It’s fantastic that young people want to try entrepreneurship.
There certainly have been lots of comments on the Holger story. I rather wryly remark that it’s a good thing Holger is only three and can’t read. But here, I particularly want to address those who’ve written because they want to become entrepreneurs themselves.
Do you want to be an entrepreneur? Start with Amino
The questions keep pouring in: How do you get started? What should you do? I’ll try to answer the emails I’ve already received, but more keep arriving, and I simply can’t manage to answer everything personally.
So I’d ask you first to visit Amino. It’s the entrepreneur portal I started in 2005. At the time of this video, in April 2011, between 15,000 and 20,000 entrepreneurs and interested people meet there daily to discuss all sorts of things.
There’s room for you too. You might be a school pupil thinking of starting something later. You might already be underway. Or you might have built a large company and have experience others can use. It’s not a place where you need to have reached a certain level before joining.
You can meet both beginners and experienced entrepreneurs
On Amino, there are people who’ve made lots of money through entrepreneurship and live abroad but still spend time helping others. There are people in the middle of working on their company and people who only have the desire and idea so far.
There are also accountants sharing their knowledge for free. Of course, they hope they might one day prepare your annual accounts. Lawyers help with questions too. That’s part of the community you can benefit from as you find your way.
Try visiting and getting some inspiration. Create a profile, say hello and explain what you’re thinking about. Some kind entrepreneurs will welcome you. I think it’s a really pleasant place to be. I tell my own experiences of getting started as an entrepreneur in Iværksætter til jeg dør.
See what’s already been written, then ask more
There are around 750,000 posts, or something like that, to get started with here in 2011. So there are already lots of questions, experiences and answers you can benefit from.
If you’ve visited Amino, looked through it and still haven’t found an answer, you’re of course welcome to write to me. But try Amino first. That gives you access to far more people’s experience than I can provide in one email.
Denmark needs people who start something
Good luck with it. I hope you become an entrepreneur, because Denmark bloody well needs you. I don’t think we need more politicians in ties speaking a Christiansborg language nobody understands a word of. We need young entrepreneurs who’ll get to work and start doing something useful.
I phrase it as picking up a spade. That was a bloody strange expression. What I’m really trying to say is simply: For hell’s sake, start something.
