Would you like to join me on a long journey?
Entrepreneur interviews on a world trip were my plan in September 2011. I described the family’s upcoming journey, arrangements with Danish entrepreneurs abroad and conversations to be shown on Amino.
Historical post from 2011. The information describes the situation back then.
Entrepreneur interviews on a world trip with the family
I have plans, big plans 🙂 From December, I’ll head out into the big wide world with my family to visit Danish entrepreneurs in faraway places. I’m going to Hawaii, Vietnam, the Philippines, New Zealand, Australia and so on. I’ve already arranged to meet a magician, a photographer, a jewellery manufacturer, an online retailer and an outsourcing business owner, and I’m in touch with an ice cream kiosk owner, a bed and breakfast owner, an aquarium builder and others. If you think of an interesting Danish entrepreneur in the areas I’m travelling through, please write here.
Conversations about life as an entrepreneur abroad
What comes out of it will be a conversation between the entrepreneur and me lasting 1–2 hours, where we go into depth with all the interesting questions, such as: "How did you dare, what do you miss, what’s cool, what would you recommend others do?" and much more. It will all go online on Amino for Plus members.
The camera would travel around the world with the family
I was excited when I described the trip in the video. My family and I were going far away, and we’d bring video cameras. That way, you were coming along too: You’d be able to follow the Danish entrepreneurs we visited along the way.
In the video, I said the journey would begin in November that year. In the original text above, I wrote December. Both were my information about the upcoming trip in 2011; they describe the plans at the time.
What was everyday life like in their chosen country?
I wanted to talk to the entrepreneurs about the country they lived in and how they’d got the idea for their business. What was running a business there like? What was great, and what was different in everyday life? I discuss my own experiences of life as an entrepreneur in Iværksætter til jeg dør.
We’d also talk about the exciting and less good parts. What had been difficult, and what had been easy? In short, I wanted to hear what being an entrepreneur was like in that country with the particular business they’d chosen.
I wanted to find people from many different industries. It didn’t have to be a business that immediately sounded wildly exciting. The story and life around it could be interesting enough.
From outsourcing in Manila to jewellery in California
I’d already arranged to meet a man with an outsourcing company employing forty people in Manila. I’d also arranged to meet a jewellery manufacturer in California and was in touch with people in Australia, New Zealand, Vietnam and Thailand.
Hawaii and the Philippines were also among the places I mentioned. The people I was in touch with included a magician, a photographer and an online retailer or portal owner. I also remembered someone with a chain of ice cream kiosks.
I wanted several different kinds of business included, so you could see many ways of being a Danish entrepreneur abroad.
I asked for tips on Danish entrepreneurs
I was looking for Danish entrepreneurs in the USA, Hawaii, the Philippines, Australia, New Zealand, Vietnam, Thailand, Japan, China or somewhere else far away. If you knew someone or were somewhere interesting yourself, I wanted to hear about it.
A diving business could be fun. So could a company organising jungle treks, a farm or a winegrower. I also mentioned an IT consultant I was going to speak to who was based somewhere very exotic.
I asked people to hold off on Europe. Sweden, England and Spain weren’t what I was looking for on this trip. That could come later, when I was home again. But if there was an interesting story somewhere else, perhaps the route could be adjusted.
Back then, tips could be left in the comments or emailed to me. That was my request for the 2011 trip.
Interviews and a blog for Amino
I was creating a blog to bring it all together and promised to say more as the work progressed.
It was something I was doing for Amino. The biggest treats would be for Amino Plus members, while others would also get something completely free.
I made no secret of the trip costing a lot of money and involving a lot of work. That was the reason for dividing it between free content and content for Plus members.
I was looking forward to setting off, and my final wish in the video was for a good tip on whom to visit.
